Any kind of hamster will make a wonderful pet, but if this is your first hamster you might want to stay away from the robos, simply because they're so fast and are good escape artists! If you want a smaller hamster then yes, stick with the winter white or the campbell's dwarf, or consider getting a Syrian hamster if you want one you can handle a bit more. Just keep in mind that you can only ever have one Syrian hamster per cage, and if you keep more than one dwarf hamster in a cage make sure they aren't a mix of male and female or you'll soon have babies to deal with!
