i just recently got a hamster for a early birthday present, not knowing which type it is:?. the guy at the pet store said it was a roborovskii,(but they only get to 2 inches full grown while mine is 5 weeks old and is 3 inches long) while my mom says it is a russian dwarf but not looking anything like a ruusian dwarf. my haster looks exactly like the one in the pic up top ecept with a long tail...HELP!!:upset  
 
ps. ill soon be able to get a pic or two soon(hopefully)

It sounds like you have a chinese dwarf hamster mix perhaps. They have longer tails than the rest...usually not very noticable though. But most likely a mix. The chinese stay very small, so if it is already three inches it cant be pure chinese. Roborovski have white eye brow hairs have no dorsal stripe and are very fast. Unfortunatley neither of these breeds are usually very nice.

The Roborovski are actually quite rare in pet shops, what you actually have is more likely to be another form of russian dwarf hamster which includes the winter whites. Similar to the Campbells varitey. Although from reading your comments i doubt what you have is a winter white because they go from grey/brown to pearl white within seasons, and their tail is so small it would not really be noticable. This may sound obvious but a long tail could mean you have something like a gerbil or mouse and not a hamster at all! My advise is to take it to a breeders or a vet if you really want to know!
